So my biggest focus lately has been on building myself up spiritually. This online journal site and regular scripture study have major parts of that. Another piece I have been working on is using social media (Facebook) to share the gospel. I have been posting Church related items, specifically pertaining to Conference. I also went on to LDS.org and found lists of all official Church groups on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and liked, followed, or subscribed to them all!
However, my favorite thing that I have been working on is doing missionary work and trying to follow the Prophet's council regarding "The Rescue." I have been reading a lot of different resources regarding the responsibilities of the Ward Mission Leader and one of the themes that I picked up from them all was to be an example. It only makes sense. Why would anyone believe me that missionary work is important if I apparently don't find it important enough to be doing it myself? I have found two ways to do this recently.
The first thing I did was invite a friend from work to Conference and to a baptism immediately following the first session (yeah...we're having a baptism between Conference sessions...cool hunh?!). He and his family are wonderful people and they used to come to Church when we first moved here. I really hope they come this Saturday! I know that our ward misses them and I miss them too!
The other thing I did this week was to invite some non-member friends to watch Conference on LDS.org. I have been running regularly with a running group on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays in preparation for a marathon in December. After our run last night (Tuesday), I was telling two of my friends that I was not going to be running with the group this Saturday. When they asked why, I told them about General Conference. That led to a discussion about Prophets and Apostles, Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, and personal revelation from the Spirit. It was a brief discussion that hit on a lot of different points, but it was a good beginning! One of them said she would check it out on LDS.org!
Anyways, that's all I have to report on as of right now. Short and sweet. It's been a great week and I am totally excited for General Conference and Nia's Baptism tomorrow!
